Arrival and Departure of Students

v   1st Bell  7:55 A.M.

v   Tardy Bell 8:00 A.M.

v   Dismissal 3:05 P.M.

 No child will be permitted to arrive before 7:20 A.M.  A student arriving at 8:00 is considered tardy.  Students are not permitted to cross the bus lanes.

 

 Attendance

Nonattendance could result in penalties by the court of law against both the student and his or her parents.  A complaint against the parent may be filed in the appropriate court if the student:

v  Is absent from school on ten or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year, or

v  Is absent on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period.

 

Backpacks

Students may only use clear or mesh backpacks without wheels at the elementary school. 

 

Bicycles

Bicycles are not permitted at the elementary school.

 

Cafeteria

No food may be ordered from an outside food service facility and delivered to the school.  The District participates in the National School Lunch Program and offers free and reduced-price meals based on a student’s financial need.  Information on this program can be obtained form the principal.  Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 7:55 A.M.

 

Radios, CD players, and other electronic devices and games

 Students are not permitted to possess such items as radios, CD players, tape recorders, camcorders, DVD players, cameras, or electronic devices or games at school, unless prior permission has been obtained from the principal.

 

Conferences

A parent/guardian who wishes to schedule a conference with a teacher may call the office for an appointment during the teacher’s conference period or request that the teacher call the parent during a conference period or at another mutually convenient time.

 

Counselor

The school counselor is available to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns, including such areas as social, family, emotional, academic, or chemical dependency needs.

 

Dress and Grooming

If it is determined that a students’ grooming or clothing violates the dress code, the student shall be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school.  If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day or until the problem is corrected or until a parent/designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school.

Guidelines:

v Military type clothing, in any color, including but not limited to combat boots, camouflage shirts and pants, and military coats or jackets are prohibited on school property

v  Undershirt type clothing, mesh or see-though clothing, and shirts or blouses with unfinished or elongated arm openings are not appropriate.

v Shirts must be properly sized and bare midriff will not be allowed to show. The waist must be covered and the shirt must be tucked in regardless of style.

v  Halter-type, backless, strapless, and spaghetti blouses and shirts are not appropriate.

v No open back shoes will be permitted.  Nontraditional footwear will not be allowed.

v  Tight or short shorts are not permitted

v Clothing, caps, accessories, or other attire which are considered obscene, suggestive, vulgar or lewd will not be permitted.  These items must also not advertises, promote, or identify with alcohol, tobacco, controlled substances, or be satanic in nature.

v  Sunglasses, caps, hats, headbands, or all other head coverings will not be permitted to be worn at school.

v All pants and shorts must be worn at the waist.  Visible underwear will not be permitted.

v  Heavy necklaces, pendants and/or chains are not permitted to be worn.  This includes the chains that are attached to wallets.

v   Unnatural hair color will not be permitted.

v  Students on the elementary level may not wear press on or acrylic nails.

v Beach thongs, shower shoes, flip flops, house shoes or any nontraditional footwear will not be permitted.

v  School authorities may grant permission when special conditions warrant special dress.

v   Only clear or mesh backpacks or bags may be used. Rolling carts or backpacks on wheels are not permitted.

 

Homework

All students will have SFA homework Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Other homework will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

 

Library

All students are permitted to check out any book in the school library unless the child losses the privilege due to lost or misplaced books.

 

Medicine

No district employee will give a student prescription medication, nonprescription medication except: Authorized employees, in accordance with policy,

and :

v  If the medication is prescription, it must be provided by the parent, along with a written request, a doctor's authorization form,  and be in the original, properly labeled container.

v If the medication is nonprescription, it must be provided by the parent, along with a written request, and be in the original, properly labeled container.

A student with asthma who has a written authorization form his or her parent and physician or other licensed health care provider may be permitted to possess and use prescribed asthma medication at school or school-related events.  The student and parents should see the school nurse or principal if the students has been prescribed asthma medication for use during the school day.

 

Participation in physical education

A student who must be excused from PE for 3 consecutive days must have a statement from a physician.  A student who needs to miss 1-2 days of PE activity will be required to have a note from a parent.  Any student who is unable to participate in PE will also be required to miss Lunch Recess and Classroom Recess for the days in question.

Parties

The campus schedules two parties a year;  Christmas and St. Valentines Day.  These parties are to take place within the last hour of regular class-time. 

 

Release of students from school

A student will not be released from school at times other than at the end of the school day except with permission from the principal and according to the campus sign-out procedures.  A student who will need to leave school during the day must bring a note from his or her parent that morning.  A student who becomes ill during the school day should, with the teacher’s permission, report to the school nurse.  The nurse will decide whether or not the student should be sent home and will notify the student’s parent.

 

Transportation

Students are expected to assist District staff in ensuring that buses remain in good condition and that transportation is provided safely.  Misconduct will be punished in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct; bus-riding privileges may be suspended.

For offenses not requiring mandatory removal, the following consequences will be invoked:

First Bus Report-warning

Second Bus Report- he or she may lose bus privileges for up to five days.

Third Bus report- the student may lose bus privileges for up to 10 days.

Fourth Bus Report- The students may lose bus privileges for the remainder of the semester.  After returning to the bus in the second semester, if the student receives another bus report, he/she will lose bus privileges for the remainder of the school year.

Visitors

Parents and other visitors are welcome to visit the school.  All visitors must report to the principal’s office and get a permit to be on campus.  Visitors are not permitted to visit the classroom during instructional time.
