District Site Based Committee Meeting March 4, 2008

The district site based committee held the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, from 3:45pm until 4:30pm. 17 members were in attendance. All campuses were represented and parent representatives were present.

 We reviewed the two calendar options. Option A ended in May and had fewer holidays. Option B ended in the first week of June and had more holidays.

 The parents preferred option A. Campuses basically preferred option B, but not by a strong margin in some cases.

 After much discussion, changes were made to option A to have two full weeks off for Christmas/New Year holiday.

 Option A was selected to recommend to the board. Under this proposal, school begins on August 25. Five days of in-service are before school starts and the other two are at the end of each semester. Students work straight through to Thanksgiving without a break except early release for homecoming and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Two weeks off come at Christmas with an early release the Friday before. Spring break is March 16-20 with early release the Friday before. Good Friday and Memorial Day are the bad weather days. The last day of class, Friday, May 29, is early release and graduation.

The next district site based meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
