Students at Crockett Elementary School are preparing for a fall harvest. Each class in grades first through fifth was given pots, soil, misters, and seeds to plant. Once the seeds sprout, the young gardeners will transplant the vegetables to raised beds that the Crockett FFA students have assembled.
Witnessing a seed grow into a vegetable provides students with numerous learning experiences. School gardens offer students the opportunity to engage in real-life, hands-on learning. As the garden grows, so will the students of Crockett Elementary.
The Growing Together Community Garden, with support from a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and a local donor, provided all necessary materials, including raised beds for
each grade level. The beds will be equipped with irrigation systems.
Committee members are Lois Bell, Dawn Jahnke, Betsy Julian, Nancy Land, Trey Lewis, Sally Loftin, Beverly Mize, Connie Pasho, Mike Puccio, and Ginny Turner. A community garden for
families, individuals, and organizations is planned for the near future. If you are interested in being part of the garden, please contact Connie Pasho at 936-544-5421.
